Caps United on Saturday clinched the 2016 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League after dismissing Chapungu 1-0 at Ascot Stadium as bitter rivals, FC Platinum, Walloped Tsholotsho FC 3-0.

Caps needed a win to clinch the title. They did exactly that with Simba Nhivi scoring the much-needed goal for the Green Machine, who last won back to back league titles under Charles Mhauri between 2004 and 2005.

They ended the season with 63 points, two ahead of FC Platinum.

This is coach Lloyd Chitembwe’s first league title since he started his coaching career.

Caps United are expected to participate in the CAF League Champions. It is not yet clear whether the Green Machine would take part in the prestigious tournament and FC Platinum in the CAF Confederation Cup.
