The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has fired the entire Warriors technical team headed by former Dynamos kingpin Kalisto Pawusa.
In a statement signed by ZIFA vice president Omega Sibanda, the association said this was made at an Extraordinary Meeting of the ZIFA National Executive Committee on 17 December 2015 in Harare where “it was resolved that the entire Technical Team for the men’s National Team headed by Mr Kalisto Pasuwa be relieved of its duties.”
The new head coach is Chicken Inn boss, Joey Antipas, who will be deputized by Tonderai Ndiraya and Mandla Mpofu.
Chicken Inn are this year’s Zimbabwe Castle Lager Premier Soccer League champions.
Former Highlanders captain and national Warriors goalkeeper, Peter ‘Oxo’ Nkomo, is the new goalkeepers’ coach while Wellington Mpandare, a close associate of ZIFA president Phillip Chiyangwa, was appointed team manager.
Highlanders technical adviser Cosmas Zulu has been appointed fitness manager and liaison officer.
Sibanda could not say why the entire technical team was fired only noting that “these appointments are with immediate effect. National team camp is hereby dissolved with immediate effect and new camp dates will be announced in due course.”
He said in the statement posted on the ZIFA website the new technical team will be in charge of the 2016 Chan tournament and 2017 African Cup of Nations campaign.
The other appointees are Dr. Togarepi (team doctor) and Farai Muguwe (physiotherapist). ZIFA is yet to appoint a kitman.
The Warriors have been over the years almost crippled by financial problems and have not made it into the elite soccer league worldwide.
