WASHINGTON DC —
The Zimbabwe Human Rights Association (ZimRights) has honored outstanding rights defenders, among them Zanu PF lawmaker Paddington Zhanda and lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa.
The winners were honored at a ceremony in Bulawayo Thursday night.
Mtetwa won the Female Human Rights Defender of the Year while Zhanda scooped the Parliamentarian of the Year Award.
Daily News reporter Pindai Dube pocketed the Human Rights Journalist of the Year Award.
"I feel very great that I have been selected among many journalists for this award," said Dube, vowing to continue reporting human rights issues.
ZimRights boss Okay Machisa paid tribute to the winners saying, "I would want to congratulate all those who won in different categories."
Several other activists were also honored in different categories, including artists and people with dissabilities.
