Some war veterans urged President Mugabe to help them in getting back ZIPRA properties seized by the state.

Zimbabwe’s war veterans present a list of demands to their patron, President Robert Mugabe, which includes calls for the party to have a political commissar who participated in the liberation struggle of the 1970s.

This appears to be targeted at senior party officials like Saviour Kasukuwere, who is the current Zanu PF political commissar, Professor Jonathan Moyo and several others believed to be supporting a faction of the party backing First Lady Grace Mugabe to succeed her husband.

This faction is known as Generation 40 or G40. The other group is allegedly led by Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who is being backed for the position by the war veterans.

The war veterans, currently holding a meeting with the president at the City Sports Center in Harare, are also demanding a bigger stake in the country’s political realm, indigenization program and pieces of land under Zimbabwe’s controversial black economic empowerment scheme and agrarian reforms.

Other demands include the return of ZIPRA properties seized by the government a couple of years ago that are now being utilized by the state for various purposes.
