Triangle Football Club have overtaken Chicken Inn as the new leaders of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League following a 2-1 away win over Sunday Chidzambwa’s ZPC Kariba.
The Sugar Sugar Boys have 32 points and are now a point above the Game Corks after 17 games. But the league title race is still far from over.
All, however, doesn’t seem to be well for Chidzambwa who has not won a game since taking over from the departed Saul Chaminuka.
Chidzambwa says he would have loved to have taken over as ZPC Kariba coach at the beginning of the season unlike now when he took over a team that had been assembled by another coach.
The former Warriors coach says despite this setback he is happy to be at Kariba after having worked all his football life in Harare and briefly in South Africa where he coached Black Leopards.
Chicken Inn slipped to second on the league table after a disappointing one-all draw at bottom-placed Dongo Sawmills.
But the game of the week was the Battle for Zimbabwe Part 2 between defending champions Dynamos and Highlanders which ended in a one-all draw.
This means Highlanders have failed to beat Dynamos in 18 matches since 2006 when they won the league championship. Dynamos have won 10 of those matches with eight of them ending in stalemates.
Big spending Caps United were beaten 1-0 by Harare City but their coach Mark Mathe is also wearing a brave face saying its back to the drawing board for the matches ahead.
How Mine were also beaten 2-0 at Hwange but coach Luke Masomere says they are playing for fun.
The other Castle Lager Premier Soccer League results were as follows: Buffaloes 0, FC Platinum 3; Chapungu 1, Hwahwa 1 and Flame Lilly 1, Tsholotsho Pirates 1
The top four log leaders are Triangle with 32 points, Chicken Inn (31), How Mine (29) and Dynamos (29). The bottom four are Tsholotsho Pirates 16 points, Buffaloes (16), Flame Lilly (14) and Dongo Mills (12).
