Low Women, Youth Turnout in Public Meetings Worries Media Panel

The Information Media Panel of Inquiry (IMPI) says it is dismayed that very few women and youths are attending its outreach programs looking at issues affecting the country’s media.

According to IMPI chairman and veteran journalist, Geoff Nyarota, this has seen media issues affecting women and youths being discussed by men, who have been frequenting and contributing at the various outreach meetings.

Nyarota said his committee’s gender panel is worried that women have failed to capitalize on IMPI’s outreach program to contribute their views.

He noted that his committee will not update the media on information gathered so far to avoid pre-emptying their report that will be released in August.

The committee is expected to visit Mashonaland East, West and Central and Harare provinces next week after having already visited Manicaland, Matabeleland North and South, Bulawayo and some parts of Masvingo and Midlands.
