Reports from South Korea's Yonhap news agency say North Korea appears to have fired an unidentified projectile in the direction of Japan.

CNN news outlet says the South Korean military made the initial report.

Yonhap news agency, without citing a source, said the projectile might have been a ballistic missile. However, neither Seoul nor Tokyo has confirmed those reports.
