The Netherlands national soccer team defeated Uruguay 3-2 on Tuesday to storm into their third World Cup final and will play whoever wins the forthcoming match between semi-finalists Spain and Germany.
Netherlands's Giovanni van Bronckhorst gave the Dutch an early lead before Uruguayan striker Diego Forlon equalized just before half time. Wesley Sneider scored his fifth goal in the tournament for the Netherlands and Arjen Robben expanded the Dutch lead to 3-1. Maximiliano Pereira scored in the last minute of injury time, but it was not enough to equalize with Netherlands - though it provided much drama at the end of the game.
Zimbabwean and African soccer fans were hoping Netherlands would defeat Uruguay, the latter team having knocked out Ghana amid controversy over alleged Uruguayan interference with a goal followed by a red card.
Chairman Themba Ndlela of Zimbabwe's Highlanders premier league team tells VOA Studio 7 reporter Marvellous Mhlanga Nyahuye earlier that he was eager to see the Dutch squad progress to the finals.
