A member of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) led by Morgan Tsvangirai remained hospitalized on Monday while several others were being treated after they were attacked Sunday by suspected Zanu PF supporters in Mbare high density suburb, Harare.

The MDC-T youth claim that they were attacked when they were trying to hold a consultative meeting.

Studio 7 was unable to get comment from the Zanu PF Youth League as its senior members were not responding to calls.

One of the injured youth, David Mazidiye, said he was left for dead after he was attacked by the suspected Zanu PF activists.

“I was attacked by the Zanu PF youth who were wearing MDC-T ti-shirts who descended on the venue in Mbare. They beat me with knobkerries and other objects and left me unconscious. About 12 members of the MDC-T are still nursing injuries. One of them is reported to be in critical condition,” said Mazidiye.

Political violence pitting suspected Zanu PF members and the opposition normally resurfaces in Zimbabwe in the run-up to elections. Zimbabwe is set to hold its next presidential, council and parliamentary polls in 2018.
