Voice of America Studio 7

Zimbabwe today celebrates 36 years of independence with a call by President Mugabe for local people to shun corruption, tribalism and nepotism. Mr. Mugabe also told thousands of people at the National Sports Stadium that Zimbabwe is struggling to prosper due to targeted sanctions imposed by the West on him and his inner circle.

Opposition political parties issue a joint statement saying there is no reason to celebrate as Zanu PF has ruined the country. The parties say there is need for regime change in the country in order to create a democratic state.

As Zimbabwe celebrates 36 years of independence, health experts, economists, government officials and ordinary Zimbabweans agree that the health system is in bad shape, hindering the enjoyment of the right to health as enshrined in the country’s constitution.

Studio 7 will be holding a townhall meeting today in Washington DC focusing on Zimbabwe’s 36th independence anniversary.
