As illegal settlers continue to occupy land in Bulawayo and its surrounding areas, the Bulawayo City Council says it is still waiting for the police to carry-out recent court orders granting the local authority permission to evict illegal settlers from some of its properties.

The settlers had occupied the local authority’s properties that include Mazwi Nature Reserve and Westgate Estates.

Police are reportedly trying to evict illegal settlers who have occupied Norwood Farm on the outskirts of Bulawayo. However, the leader of the invaders, Tariro Magovanyika, a Zanu PF activist, reportedly denied they were facing evictions saying police were simply warning them not to cut down trees.

Bulawayo mayor, Martin Moyo, said the local authority’s security personnel is still guarding the council’s properties where the invaders were evicted to ensure they do not return.
