New Wage Talks Set Between Zimbabwe Government and Civil Servants

Representatives of Zimbabwean civil servants were expected to meet with government officials later this week for a new round of discussions on demands for higher salaries, civil service sources said Monday.

The sources said that despite recent remarks by Finance Minister Tendai Biti, later contradicted by Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, saying salaries are frozen, talks between the two sides are continuing.

Political analyst Mlamuli Nkomo in Johannesburg told VOA Studio 7 reporter Chris Gande that discord in the government over the issue of salaries shows the issue has become politicized.
