After Spectacular Fall, Bungee-Jumping Suspended in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

Vic Falls Bungee spokesman Clemence Mukwasi said safety experts from South Africa are looking into the incident in which Australian tourist Erin Langworthy happily escaped serious injury

The operator of a Zambezi River bungee-jumping concession in the tourist town of Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, has suspended operations following a New Year's Eve accident in which an Australian tourist plunged 111 meters when the bungee cord securing her snapped.

Vic Falls Bungee spokesman Clemence Mukwasi said safety experts from South Africa are looking into the incident in which Erin Langworthy happily escaped serious injury.

Victoria Falls Mayor Nkosilathi Jiyane told reporter Sithandekile Mhlanga the incident has affected tourism as a video of the accident has become an Internet hit.

Tourism Minister Walter Mzembi said that while the accident may have been a freak, his ministry has urged tour operators to make sure services they offer are of high quality.
