WASHINGTON D.C. —
All roads lead to the inaugural Zimbabwe Fashion Week in Birmingham, United Kingdom, where some of the country’s top designers will on Saturday showcase their talent at an event featuring celebrity designer, Farayi Simoyi.
Event organizer and designer, Chiedza Dawn Ziyambe, told VOA she hopes the event will give Zimbabwean designers the recognition they deserve in the world.
“There’s a lot of talent that Zimbabweans have but we are just too shy or we don’t make enough noise for people to take notice,” said Ziyambe.
“So this will be 12 hours of fashion. We are not doing it over a week as the name suggests.”
Nine designers will showcase their talent in different styles and Ziyambe, who created the event, says the platform will also see Zimbabweans exchanging notes with colleagues in the same profession as they show Britain and the world what they have to offer.
