Thousands of people Friday brought the City of Bulawayo to a standstill as they staged a peaceful procession from the central business district to Luveve Stadium where they paid their last respects to the late soccer legend, Adam Ndlovu, who died in a car accident last Sunday.
Family spokesman, Khawudeni Ncube, thanked the mourners for coming in large numbers to bid farewell to the former highlanders, Warriors and FC Kriens star.
People from all walks of life including his former soccer teammates, city council representatives, lawmakers, soccer players and members of the public attended the procession and gathering at Luveve Stadium.
Former Highlanders defender, Douglas ‘British’ Mloyi, said Adam was a talented player, who coached budding and experienced soccer players.
Mloyi said: “Adam will be sadly missed by the whole world because he was a great player and had an outstanding personality.”
Two buses loaded with Dynamos fans from Harare arrived in the city to also pay their last respects to the late player.
A social commentator wrote on his Facebook page that “I have never seen so much unity among Zimbabweans and this shows that Adam was a man of the people. Every province of the country is represented here in Bulawayo.”
Ndlovu will be laid to rest Saturday at the city’s Lady Stanley Cemetery.
Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirayi, Speaker of Parliament Lovemore Moyo, Water Resources Minister Sam Sipepa Nkomo and several other politicians flocked to the late soccer star’s house at Selbourne Park in the city.
