Southern African Soccer Tourney Generates Pride - and Revenues - in Zimbabwe

Zimbabweans were in a celebratory mood on Monday following Sunday's 3-1 victory by the Warriors national football team over Zambia’s Chipolopolo to claim the 2009 Cosafa Senior Challenge Cup.

Zimbabwe Football Association Chairman Wellington Nyatanga told VOA Studio7 reporter Marvellous Mhlanga-Nyahuye that his organization will build on experience gained in this tournament for future international events set in the country.

Meanwhile, business sources said hotels and night clubs in Bulawayo posted brisk business during the Cosafa tournament, played in part in the City of Kings. At least three hotels were fully booked and nightclubs became a nerve center for visiting fans, officials and players.

Bulawayo businessman Mgcini Nkolomi, operator of a restaurant and nightclub, told reporter Gibbs Dube of VOA's Studio 7 for Zimbabwe that organizers should extensively market such tournaments to attract fans from elsewhere and generate local economic benefits.
