The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority is launching a major marketing campaign to lure tourists back to the country, formerly a major destination in Southern Africa but avoided by many Western tourists whose governments had advised against travel there.
With the country appearing more stable under the government of national unity installed in February, the U.S., British, German and Japanese governments in recent weeks have lifted warnings against travel to Zimbabwe and the ZTA wants to capitalize on that.
Tourism Authority Chief Executive Karikoga Kaseke told reporter Marvellous Mhlanga-Nyahuye of VOA's Studio 7 for Zimbabwe that he was leaving Wednesday night for Brazil to promote Zimbabwe and will join forces with Prime Minister Tsvangirai on other road shows.
