Medical Activist Urges New Zimbabwe Government To Intensify Anti-Cholera Effort

Members of Zimbabwe's new national unity government should set aside political differences and work as a team to end the devastating cholera epidemic, Dr. Douglas Gwatidzo, chairman of the Zimbabwe Association Of Doctors For Human Rights, said Wednesday.

The World Health Organization, meanwhile, said deaths from cholera since the epidemic took hold in the country in August climbed to 3,877 as of Tuesday.

Dr. Gwatidzo told reporter Marvellous Mhlanga-Nyahuye that the government must focus intently on the humanitarian emergency and look closely at every aspect from the decrepit public water infrastructure to collapsed health care systems.
