Bail Hearing For Detained Zimbabwe Activists Postponed Pending High Court Decision

A Harare magistrate deferred to Tuesday a bail hearing for detained Zimbabwe Peace Project Director Jestina Mukoko and 16 Movement for Democratic Change activists accused of plotting to overthrow the government of President Robert Mugabe.

The postponement followed a request by the defense team that the activists receive medical attention before any further proceedings.

Lawyer Alec Muchadehama said the defense team approached the high court with the request so the magistrate's court can't rule before the upper court has handed down a decision.

Correspondent Thomas Chiripasi of VOA's Studio 7 for Zimbabwe told Jonga Kandemiiri that a case involving yet another group of MDC activists including the former personal assistant to opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai, Ghandi Mudzingwa, was put off until Wednesday.
