Zimbabwe Rights Lawyers Say Detained Activists Still Denied Medical CAre

Zimbabwe human rights defenders representing Peace Project Director Jestina Mukoko and dozens of opposition activists accused of plotting a coup said Thursday that their clients have not yet received medical care as ordered by a high court judge on Wednesday.

The court ruled that Mukoko and more than 30 Movement for Democratic Change activists should be sent to Avenues Clinic in Harare or that doctors of their choosing should come to the Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison where they are being held.

Lawyer Andrew Makoni told reporter Jonga Kandemiiri of VOA's Studio 7 for Zimbabwe that even a two-year-old child being held in remand with his mother needs urgent attention because state agents harmed him during his mother’s interrogation.
