Zimbabwe Opposition Members Criticize Candidate Selection Process

Senior officials of the faction of Zimbabwe's opposition Movement for Democratic Change led by Morgan Tsvangirai met Thursday to consider petitions from members disgruntled over the imposition of candidates in their constituencies.

MDC Tsvangirai faction members from Bindura, Harare, Mashonaland East and Manicaland have registered displeasure at the manner in which some candidates are being selected to represent the party in the upcoming elections.

Supporters from the Harare districts or suburbs of Mbare, Budiriro and Sunningdale were said to have demonstrated at the party headquarters in Harare on Wednesday, forcing the formation's standing committee to review the complaints.

Tsvangirai faction elections director Dennis Murira told reporter Jonga Kandemiiri that senior party officials are going to look into every complaint they receive.
