Zimbabwean sports observers are worried that a wrangle between sports writers and the main sponsor of soccer in the country over control of the soccer star of the year award could sink the event entirely if the issue cannot be resolved soon.
Representatives of the Zimbabwe Sports Writers Association and CBZ Bank met in Harare on Wednesday but declined to disclose the content of their discussions.
The sports scribes and bankers were attempting to sort out differences over the selection process, which normally takes place in late November.
The writers have objected to what they consider to be an effort by the sponsor to increase its degree of control over the selection process.
Sports analyst Brian Goredema told reporter Marvellous Mhlanga-Nyahuye of VOA's Studio 7 for Zimbabwe that he is disappointed to see writers and sponsors fall out.
