Zimbabwean soccer fans are commending the move to draft younger and less experienced players into the national team to represent the country in its dead rubber 2008 Africa Cup qualifier against Malawi in Bulawayo on Sept. 9.
Zimbabwe did not make it into the Africa Cup of Nations, but must go through with the match, so interim coach Norman Mapeza rather than calling up foreign-based players at great expense has decided to give experience to local players.
Zimbabwe Soccer Supporters Secretary Eddie Chivero told sports reporter Marvellous Mhlanga-Nyahuye of VOA's Studio 7 for Zimbabwe that it's a smart strategy because it will give the next generation of players a chance at a place with the Warriors.
