Pressure For Price Cuts Extends To Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League

Taking a cue from government pressure on retailers and manufacturers to cut prices, Zimbabwean soccer fans this weekend jostled with gatekeepers at matches to slash entry fees, leading organizers at one stadium to roll back a 100% fee increase.

Fans forced their way into a match at Harare's Gwanzura Stadium between Lengthens and Motor Action on Saturday after arguing with gate officials over ticket prices. Fans in Mutare disgruntled over ticket prices similarly pushed past ticket takers.

Zimbabwe Football Association officials averted further disturbances by lowering fees for Sunday's Dynamos-Hwange match at Rufaro Stadium, Harare, sports commentator Michael Kariati told Marvellous Mhlanga-Nyahuye of VOA's Studio 7 for Zimbabwe.
