Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League Turfed Out Of Harare Stadium For Upgrade

Zimbabwe's Premier Soccer League faces disruption of its schedule with Harare's Rufaro Stadium set to close for renovations in August and September - the Zimbabwe Football Association with FIFA and the city council is putting down artificial turf.

Other venues are limited: the National Sports Stadium has been closed for repairs since last October and will remain out of commission for another 12 months.

The Rufaro improvements will be carried out under a FIFA program to encourage the use of artificial turf in Africa. ZIFA wanted to launch the program in Masvingo’s Mucheke Stadium, but FIFA insisted on starting with Rufaro.

Monomotapa Club Secretary David Makombe told reporter Marvellous Mhlanga-Nyahuye that the upgrade is welcome but will cause dislocation and expense to clubs based in Harare which must play out of town while work is in progress.
