Police Detain Zimbabwe Lawyers Demanding End To Arrests, Harrassment

Zimbabwe police continued their crackdown on lawyers in the country, by detaining 10 lawyers in Mutare, in Manicaland, who were for demonstrating against the harrassment and arrest of their fellow colleagues in the country by state officials.

The lawyers, all members of the Law Society of Zimbabwe, were released after being held for two hours. The demonstrations follow a similar protest in Harare recently, where Law Society members were assaulted by police.

One of the Mutare lawyers, Trust Maanda, told reporter Chris Gande of VOA's Studio 7's for Zimbabwe police detained they as they were marching to the governor’s office to deliver a petition with their demands.
