Zimbabwe Dynamos Soccer Fans Outraged At Steep Gate Fee Rise

Zimbabwe's Black Rhinos football club defeated Dynamos 4-2 on penalties in the Zimbabwe Federation Of Trade Unions Challenge Cup at Rufaro stadium in Harare Tuesday afternoon as soccer fans thronged to the free Workers Day match.

Black Rhinos claimed the cup and a Z$130 million (US$5,200) purse while the runner-up Dynamos came away with a Z$70 million (US$2,800) consolation prize.

Meanwhile, Dynamos Supporters Chairman Philemon Bonde was castigating the move by the club to raise gate fees for Sunday's Premier League game against Caps United to Z$30,000 from Z$15,000 for the public grandstand. Upper and lower grandstand places were going up to Z$60,000 and VIP seats to Z$200,000.

Bonde told reporter Marvellous Mhlanga-Nyahuye of VOA's Studio 7 for Zimbabwe that fans could be very ill-humored if the team did not deliver a victory Sunday.
