Zimbabwe's Mwana Africa Ready For Africa Champions Debut

Mwana Africa Football Club of Zimbabwe, heading into its first Africa Champions competition, says it is raring to tackle Mundu Football Club of Zanzibar in the first round of the competition set for January 27 in Zanzibar.

Mwana Africa officials say no one is on the injured list and the team hopes to stage an upset despite its less-than-stellar performance in a friendly match last weekend against Zanaco of Zambia, in which it was defeated by a score of 3-0.

Mwana Africa drew 1-1 against Zambia’s Green Buffaloes in another friendly.

Mwana Africa defender Thomas Svesve says he and his mates are looking forward to the continental championship. Mwana Africa is in training camp in Bindura and the team is scheduled to leave for Zanzibar next Wednesday.

Svesve told sports reporter Marvellous Mhlanga Nyahuye of VOA's Studio 7 for Zimbabwe that he expects Mwana Africa to shine in its first time out.
