Church Leaders Confer With Zimbabwe Opposition Officials

Church leaders who met with President Robert Mugabe in May have held discussions with Movement for Democratic Change founding president Morgan Tsvangirai.

At least 10 church leaders and three MDC officials attended the meeting Thursday in Harare. Spokesman Nelson Chamisa of the MDC faction headed by Tsvangirai said he was not at liberty to disclose the details of the meeting.

For more on what emerged from the meeting between clergy and the opposition faction, Carole Gombakomba of VOA's Studio 7 for Zimbabwe turned to Bishop Trevor Manhanga, President of the Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe and spokesman for the Ecumenical Peace Initiative, a new Christian umbrella organization.
