New Fuel Price Spike Signals Continued Surge in Zimbabwe Inflation

Fuel prices in Zimbabwe have more than doubled in recent days, from some Z$300,000 to around Z$600,000 a liter, local reports said, with more acute shortages of diesel and gasoline driving this latest spike in prices.

Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce President Luxon Zembe said businesses will have little choice but to raise prices to offset higher operating costs, which could send the annual inflation rate up another 100 points from almost 1,200% in May.

Reporter Patience Rusere of VOA’s Studio 7 for Zimbabwe asked Zembe about the wider impact of soaring fuel prices on businesses and consumers.
