Human Rights Watch Urges G-8 Denunciation of Harare

The Human Rights Watch activist group has called upon the leaders of the Group of Eight economic powers, now in summit in Scotland, to bring pressure to bear on the government of Zimbabwe to stop forced evictions and resettlements.

Human Rights Watch researcher Tiseke Kasambala recently spent two weeks in Zimbabwe on a fact-finding mission and told VOA that she was shocked by what she saw going on and heard from those displaced by the government blitz.

Ms. Kasambala said her organization is calling on G-8 and other leaders to do what they can to minimize the suffering of the Zimbabwean people.

Reporter Ndimyake Mwakalyele of VOA’s Studio 7 for Zimbabwe conducted an interview with Ms. Kasamabala, who is based in London.
