Displaced Families Told to Leave Possessions Behind

Families in the eastern border city of Mutare who have been encamped at the local sports grounds since the destruction of their homes faced a further loss as police told them they must abandon most of their belongings whenever they are moved to rural areas. Officials told them government trucks being used to take the displaced into the countryside could not accommodate household goods as well as people. Families at other locations, such as Porta Farm outside Harare, were also told to leave their belongings behind. Sydney Sithole filed a report on this latest round of mass dispossession to VOA’s Studio 7 for Zimbabwe.
