Harare Samaritan Takes Eight Families Under Her Roof


Those displaced by Operation Murambatsvina have been scattered throughout Zimbabwe's cities as they look for a temporary new home. Many of the more fortunate who still have roofs over their heads have welcomed the victims of what Zimbabweans call the "tsunami." Tracy Maponde of Harare has taken in eight families whose homes in Hatcliff were leveled. Most former residents of Churu Farm who had been resettled by the government at a housing co-operative destroyed last week. Studio Seven's Carole Gombakomba spoke with Mrs. Maponde from Washington and asked her how all those families turned up on her doorstep.
