Armed security forces evicted thousands of families from the Bulawayo township of Makokoba this week. Baton-wielding police torched buildings and bulldozers knocked them over. In some instances, the buildings targeted were long-established houses, not unauthorized shanties, said David Coltart, a senior official of the Movement for Democratic Change.
