Zimbabwe's main opposition says the country has virtually run out of the national staple, maize.
The Movement for Democratic Change says it has urged President Robert Mugabe to appeal for foreign donor aid.
Last year Zimbabwe's Agriculture Minister Joseph Made said the country had produced more grain than it needed. The government also told aid agencies to stop distributing food supplies, saying they were no longer needed.
The French news agency reports the opposition wants the government to apologize for being what it called misleading about having enough grain.
