Zimbabwe's opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) says one of its supporters has been killed in a politically-motivated incident ahead of Thursday's parliamentary elections.
A local member of parliament for Epworth (Tapiwa Mashakada) tells VOA that 25 year old Gift Sande was attacked last Thursday by supporters of President Robert Mugabe's ruling ZANU-PF party.
The official says a group of ZANU-PF youths beat Mr. Sande to death for wearing an MDC opposition tee-shirt.
Zimbabwe police have confirmed the murder but denied it was politically motivated, saying it appeared to have been the result of a bar brawl.
The allegation is the MDC's first charge of political murder in this campaign -- marked by far less violence and intimidation than Zimbabwe's last two elections in 2000 and 2002.
