Zimbabwean police have arrested Victor Matemadanda, secretary general of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association, which last week dumped President Robert Mugabe saying he is now a liability to the country. His arrest follows that of Douglas Mahiya, secretary for information and publicity of the ZNLWVA, who handed himself to the police yesterday after 13 men that identified themselves as police officers descended on his Chitungwiza home and searched the premises.

Opposition parties and civic groups gang up against President Mugabe's threat to crush protests and called on the African Union and Southern African Development Community to reign in the Zimbabwean leader urging him to uphold the constitution. The president says he will not step down despite calls by war veterans of the 1970s for him to relinquish power.

The 2016 Mandela Washington Fellows are preparing to wrap up their six-week U.S program as they head to America’s capital to meet with President Barack Obama. We will be interviewing some of the fellows today.

The message Democrats presented at their convention yesterday night in Philadelphia was clear: Hillary Clinton is prepared to be the next president of the United States and Donald Trump is not.
