National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) workers say they will stage demonstrations over their outstanding salaries this Saturday following a High Court ruling last week granting them permission to go ahead with the protests.
Last month, police barred NRZ unions from demonstrating in Harare, Bulawayo, Gweru and Mutare saying the protests could spark incidents of violence.
Tamurai Moyo, president of the Zimbabwe Amalgamated Railways Union says the workers are dissatisfied that their employer is paying them half their salaries, instead of clearing all the outstanding arrears.
However, NRZ Public Relations Manager, Fanuel Masikati, told VOA Studio 7 although the parastatal’s performance depends on the country’s economy, the parastatal is making efforts to revamp the company and meet all its responsibilities, including the workers’ demands.
