Bulawayo City Council police on Wednesday continued their war with street vendors operating from undesignated areas and impounding their wares.

The offensive has angered many vendors because the local authority had peomised it would only remove the hawkers after securing them proper bays.

Several vendors were allegedly assaulted, and the victims were said to be mainly those operating from Five Street and Jason Moyo.

One of those affected is Godfrey Moyo, who says the local authority should have relocated vendors as promised instead of removing them violently and without alternative places.

Studio 7 was unable to talk to Bulawayo Mayor Martin Moyo.

The Harare City Council has carried out a similar campaign in the past several weeks and destroyed livelihoods for thousands of people who relied on vending.
