Baba Jukwa: University Student Out on Bail

A University of Zimbabwe economics student charged with attempting to commit acts of insurgency, terrorism, banditry or sabotage was released on bail Tuesday by the High Court.

Twenty-year-old Romeo Musemburi was freed on $100 bail by Justice Joseph Musakwa who ordered him to reside at his current address until finalization of his case.

He will be back in court July 16 for routine remand.

Prosecutors allege that Musemburi sent the controversial Facebook phantom character Baba Jukwa an email asking for arms of war to rebel against the Zanu PF government.

He is the third suspect to be arrested over the Baba Jukwa saga after Sunday Mail editor Edmund Kudzai and his brother Phillip. The two were both bailed by the same court last week.

Musemburi’s lawyer Tonderai Bhatasara says his client is innocent.
