Zimbabwe School Children Involved in Serious Kombi Accident

Police in Zimbabwe say some school children have been seriously injured in a road traffic accident after a kombi in which they were travelling in veered off the road and rolled three times along the Harare-Beitbridge Road near Chivhu, Mashonaland East.

In a message posted on X, formerly Twitter, police said all injured Mutero High School children and the driver of the Toyota Quantum Kombi are receiving treatment at a local hospital.

Police said, “The kombi was on its way to Masvingo when the driver lost control and the Kombi over turned three times near Munyati Bridge and landed on its wheels. The accident occurred at around 1000 hours this morning. All the vehicle occupants are currently being treated at Chivhu General Hospital.”

Police are expected to release further details in due course. Schools are opening for the second term tomorrow in Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile, police also report that one person has died and 29 others injured in a kombi road traffic accident along the Gweru-Shurugwi Caravan Road.
Police said the kombi, which was carrying 18 passengers, was involved in a side swipe with another White Nissan Caravan Kombi with a similar number of people on board.

In a message posted on X, police said, “The body of the victim was taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital mortuary awaiting post mortem while the injured are admitted at the same hospital.”
