Zimbabwe Premier League Newcomer Lengthens Bolsters Bench

Officials of Lengthens Football Club Of Dzivarasekwa, which was recently promoted to Zimbabwe's Premier Soccer League from Division One, say they are shopping for new players to bolster the team before the season gets going.

They said Lengthens will play big games in Rufaro Stadium in Harare - but will mainly stay home in Dzivarasekwa, a Harare suburb, to paying back its loyal supporters.

Lengthens, elevated the PSL late last season, this week named a new coach - Josten Mathuthu, formerly of Shooting Stars of Bulawayo, a team embroiled since the end of last season in a scandal over the alleged fixing of a match to prevent its relegation.

Lengthens assistant coach Paul Chimalizeni, who led Lengthens into the PSL but has lost his job to Mathuthu, told reporter Marvellous Mhlanga-Nyahuye of VOA's Studio 7 for Zimbabwe that he is not bitter about his personal reversal of fortunes.
