While the ruling Zanu-PF party celebrated its court victory, the opposition MDC Alliance which lodged the formal challenge to President Mnangagwa’s July 30th election victory, alleging that the election was rigged, was not.
In his tweet, which claimed that some white farmers are being killed as happened in Zimbabwe, President Trump wrote: “I have asked Secretary of State @SecPompeo to closely study the South Africa land and farm seizures and expropriations and the large scale killing of farmers.
“We were not surprised by the court’s decision. The election results were firmly in line with all the pre-election polling, and were entirely consistent with the final tally of ZESN, the largest body of independent observers."
"In the final analysis, the court finds the applicant has failed to place before it clear, direct, sufficient and credible evidence" of irregularities, said Chief Justice Luke Malaba in his ruling at the Constitutional Court in Harare.
