WASHINGTON DC —
Talk of a wedding of the year and this is exactly what a Harare couple did in the city’s posh Glen Loarne suburb recently where the two hosted a $370,000 wedding reception.
Timothy Mutangi and Patience Kadada hired a $40,000 helicopter in South Africa and used it to land at the wedding venue attended by more than 600 guests.
They also hired a state of the art Mercedes Benz S600 and some top range Bentleys.
According to the couple’s close relatives, the two had a six-deck cake and hired music super star Oliver Mutukudzi, who collected a cool $20,000 after performing for five hours.
The two are believed to be operating a mine in Zimbabwe where civil servants and some workers in the private sector get an average monthly salary of $300. The country’s poverty datum line currently stands at $540 for an urban family of six.
Some weddings in the country cost less than $5,000.
