On Monday, April 18th, Zimbabwe marks its 36th Anniversary of Independence. Colonized by the British in the 19th century, Zimbabwe achieved independence in 1980 after a protracted guerrilla war. However, the euphoria for black majority rule gradually eroded by mounting economic and social challenges.
