The Zimbabwe National Students’ Union has resolved to engage the Ministry of Higher Education following serious cases of sexual harassment of female students by lecturers in colleges and universities.

ZINASU gender secretary, Joana Mamombe, says 230 female students who attended a one-day provincial gender summit in Harare on Wednesday, noted that lecturers demanding sex for marks are being protected by their colleagues and deans.

She says top on the agenda was the issue of sexual harassment which is devastating female students at some colleges and universities.

Colleges and universities have maintained over the years that few lecturers are abusing students.

Mamombe says the students also discussed several challenges at the summit including lack of accommodation, transport blues and First Lady Grace Mugabe’s doctorate recently obtained at the University of Zimbabwe.
