Chicken Inn have qualified to represent Zimbabwe in the 2016 Confederation of African Football Champions League, a competition for national club champions around Africa.

There was celebration in the home of Chicken Inn over the weekend after the Game Corks were crowned the 2015 Zimbabwe champions with one game still to be played.

Their 3-1 win over Harare City saw them move to 58 points, four ahead of second placed FC Platinum, who were held to a one-all draw by resurgent Caps United and Dynamos who also have 54 points.

This means even if Chicken Inn lose their remaining fixture and both FC Platinum and Dynamos win theirs, they cannot catch up with the Game Corks.

The game Corks will be presented with their trophy in their last game of the season against against already relegated Flame Lilly at LaFarge Stadium this coming Saturday.

Chicken Inn coach Joey Antipas said unity was the key to their success this season.

Chicken becomes the second Bulawayo team to win the league title since 2006 when Highlanders were crowned the Zimbabwe champions.

Antipas is proud to have won the trophy for the city of Bulawayo.

This is also the second league title for Antipas who in 2010 also won the title while handling the now defunct Motor Action.

For winning the league title, Chicken Inn will also receive $100 000 and also qualify to represent Zimbabwe in the 2016 Caf Champions League.

Their success also comes at a time when another Bulawayo club Highlanders are breathing fire. Bosso hit two goals past Tsholotsho for the maximum three points and have moved to sixth on the 16 team league table.

Both Highlanders and Chicken Inn are also in the semi finals of the Easycall Cup.

At the same time, Flame Lilly became the third team to be relegated after they settled for a one all draw against Whawha.

Either Buffaloes on 29 points or Tsholotsho Pirates on 30 points will join Flame Lilly, Whawa, and Dongo Sawmills should they lose their last game of the season.

In fact, it was a hectic weekend for Zimbabwean sport after Zifa presidential candidate Phillip Chiyangwa Saturday launched his election manifesto at a hugely attended event.

Most of the voting Zifa Councillors attended the event except 11 of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

Chiyangwa also made some promises.

Although most Premier Soccer League clubs were a no show, Buffaloes, Chapungu, Dynamos, Whawha, and Flame Lilly were represented at the event.

In rugby, it was, however, not a good weekend for Zimbabwean rugby.

The Zimbabwe national rugby team, the Sables, lost all their three matches at the Hong Kong Cup of Nations Cup were they were beaten by the hosts as well as Russia, and Portugal.

The Sables lost their opening game 30-11 to Hong Kong, and later 55-5 to Russia.

They also lost their final game 36-11 to Portugal.
