Preparations for the 18th International Conference on Aids and STIs in Africa (ICASA) have reached advanced stages with organizers happy about progress made so far.

ICASA Communications Manager, Tariro Makanga-Chikumbirike, on Friday said Zimbabwe has made great strides towards successfully hosting the conference given it had less than eight months to put everything together.

“We are really happy with the progress,” said Makanga-Chikumbirike. “We are at 98 percent when we look at all the preparations overall. All the presenters have confirmed that they will be attending. We actually now have an overflow because we had plan A and plan B and the first one has worked out well so far.”

ICASA is the biggest Aids conference in Africa. Harare was picked to host the conference ahead of Rwanda and Cote d'Ivoire. The conference was moved from Tunisia due to political instability.

The event brings together between 5,000 and 10,000 delegates.
