Transform Zimbabwe, the new kid on the Zimbabwean political bloc, says it will contest in its first election Friday in the Chipinge West Ward One council by-election despite the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission’s failure to furnish it with an updated voters’ roll.
Party president Jacob Ngarivhume says his party was given the voters' roll used in 2013, which he says is now outdated.
He says ZEC is still yet to furnish it with the voters’ rolls for the two parliamentary by-elections to be held in March in Mt. Darwin West and Chirumhanzu-Zibagwe, adding their lawyers were working on the case to challenge ZEC.
The Chipinge council seat fell vacant following the death last year of Zanu PF councillor Albert Muzimba.
Four candidates are going to battle it out with Transform Zimbabwe being represented by Chimana Muchinawo. Zanu PF will be represented by Samuel Manyange, while Munyaradzi Mazunze represents the National Constitutional Assembly party and Samuel Masaiti contesting as an independent.
Ngarivhume says this election is important to them because their participation will help them prepare for the 2018 national polls.
Studio 7 failed to reach the other candidates who were said to be mopping up their campaign before the election.
