The Harare City Council says it has taken all necessary measures to ensure that it contains typhoid that has been reported in some parts of the city.

Council spokesman Michael Chideme told VOA Studio 7 so far they have dealt with 15 cases while they are following up on about 125 suspected cases.

“We are very prepared as a local authority to deal with the issue of typhoid. Out teams are on the ground, going around educating the people on the dangers of typhoid,” Chideme said.

Cases of typhoid have so far been recorded in Glen Norah, Glen View, Budiriro, Hopley and Hatfield.

Chideme said his council is also making sure that all illegal food vending sites are destroyed in order to get rid of places that can habour bacteria causing typhoid.

“In terms of vendors, we are making sure that the food vendors are not trading from illegal sites.”

He said they have started destroying these illegal food vending sites starting with those at Mbare Musika bus termini before moving to other areas Monday next week.
